If bacteria enter the nerve canal of a tooth, root canal therapy can be performed to removed the infected nerve tissue within this canal. Firstly, the tooth must be deemed suitable for root canal treatment via a thorough assessment.
The tooth is prepared to ensure all residual bacteria is removed and the area is disinfected. The hollowed-out tooth is then filled in with a rubber-based material and the tooth is restored appropriately. A root canal treated tooth may often require a crown as a final restoration.
